THE PROBLEM

The environmental health and safety team of a large automotive retailer was undergoing some major changes in their policies for new hires and current team members. These changes are designed to enhance their safety training when encountering spills of hazardous materials while on shift. However, there were no official trainings put in place, just long drawn out documentation... During our meeting with subject matter experts, they expressed their desire for my help in breaking this down into 10 sticky steps for our team members to remember and get hands-on interactivity with during their training, which will ultimately lead to a safer work environment.

THE solution

My solution was simple. I devised a plan to create a theme encompassing a warehouse workers environment using vectorized designs. This module is intended to guide the learner through the ten essential steps to properly maintaining hazardous spills through interactivity. With a lot of areas to forget, I found it critical to use gamification to immerse the learner with drag and drop and visuals that will stick when they encounter a spill. By breaking these sections up into bite-sized learnings and steps, it's easier for our learners to absorb the material and engage with it so they can have the confidence to take on the spills with ease. Upon launching this module, the EHS team received great feedback and saw reduced workplace accidents and injuries when working with hazardous spills, sparking excitement and motivation for further learning.
